Why Single-Sign-On (SSO)?
Districts increasingly use digital or online curriculum for many great reasons. In a digital district, students may need to access course materials from a half-dozen or more different digital publishers like CompuScholar. Without a Single-Sign-On (SSO) service, students are stuck juggling different usernames, passwords, and login pages for each publisher.
Clearly, we'd like to streamline access to student materials. That's where SSO comes in handy! With an SSO solution, students only need to remember ONE username, ONE password, and login to ONE centralized dashboard. From there, they can click there way into different online publisher environments with no friction.
Why Automatic Rostering?
A busy teacher may have 6 or more sections in different subjects throughout the day, and each classroom might have 20, 30 or more students. Ensuring students are enrolled in the right courses, managing username/password issues, and processing add/drops as they occur throughout the semester might seem like a part-time job!
With an automatic rostering solution, publishers like CompuScholar can automatically pull roster information (sections, assigned teachers, enrolled students) from a district SIS. Courses can then be automatically set up in our system, with student accounts automatically enrolled in the right sections. With a nightly sync, adding new students and removing dropped students is an automatic process!
Introducing Clever and ClassLink
SSO and automatic rostering solutions are typically provided by 3rd-party services that sit between a district's Student Information System (SIS) and online publisher systems. The two dominant SSO and auto-rostering services today are Clever and ClassLink.
Both services provide similar features. They will connect with a wide variety of district SIS to extract information on teachers, students, sections, schools, and schedules. This roster information is then presented to publishers in a standard format. Publishers (like CompuScholar) with a Clever or ClassLink integration can then pull this information and use it for automatic rostering.
Once rostering is done, students and teachers can take advantage of SSO to access publisher materials. Students simply log into the district's Clever or ClassLink dashboard using a single, district-assigned username and password. From there, they click on a publisher app to access course materials in the publisher's system.

If you are currently using our "standard" or "manual" deployment and want to give Clever or ClassLink a try, ask your school admins if your school is already integrated with one or both services. Then, ask your assigned CompuScholar CSR to help get things set up!
Note: If you are hosting CompuScholar courses in your Canvas, Schoology, or similar LMS, then your school will use it's own internal process for rostering students and providing access.
